As the part of celebrating the ‘World Anti Tobacco day’, Trivandrum Oncology Club, SWASTI foundation, Qualified Medical Practitioners Association (QPMPA) and Rotary Club of Trivandrum City, organized the ‘No Tobacco Walkathon’ which was the launching of an year long campaign against tobacco and drug abuse targeting schools of Trivandrum District. Walkathon started form Kowdiar junction at 7am in the morning. Balloons have been released at the beginning of the walk by the Honorable Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Sri. V.S Sivakumar, President of the Trivandrum Oncology Club Padmashree Dr. M. Krishnan Nair and Sri. M. Vijayakumar MLA. After that, the walk was flagged off by Sri. V.S Sivakumar. Minister spoke about the dangers of using tobacco. He has also told that government has noticed sale of tobacco products near schools and he promised that stringent action will be taken against by the government.

Aby George (Swasti foundation) Dr Babu Mathew (Principal, Assisia Dental College), Dr. Bennet Abraham (Director, Karakonam Medical College), Vidhu Prathap (play back singer), Rev. Father Bovas Mathew, Smt. Karthiyayini (Principal, Swathi School of Music), Sri Gokul Govind (Swathi), Dr. Devin Prabhakar (Vice President, QPMPA), Mr. Harikrishnan (Swasthi Foundation), Dr. Boban Thomas, (Trivandrum Oncology Club) and Dr. Manoj (Ayur Bay Resort) participated in the walk. The walk concluded in front of Kanakakkunnu Palace and Anti tobacco oath was taken by all the delegates lead by Additional DGP Sri Hemachandran IPS. A flash mob was conducted by the students of PMS Dental College. Students from Saraswathi Vidhyalaya, Santhigiri School and Sasneham participated in the programme.
 
Awareness classes about ‘harmful effects of tobacco’ and survey to study the prevalence and causes of tobacco use will be conducted in schools, as part of one year programme. 
 
There will be a competition on “No Tobacco” photography, “No Tobacco” slogan and No Tobacco” cartoon for the school students. 
 
At the end of the programme, Dr. Chandramohan (Secretary, Trivandrum Oncology Club) expressed vote of thanks.
